Thermos Brewing Starter Kit

Brewing tea in a thermos is one of my favourite ways to enjoy tea, but it's something very few people in the West do. I was first introduced to it by a Chinese friend, who gave me some aged white tea to brew in a thermos before my flight back to Melbourne. I was amazed at how the tea became richer and more flavourful over time without becoming bitter.

The two teas in this set—Amber, an aged white tea, and Permian, a Shaanxi Fu brick tea—are both perfect introductions to this style of brewing. They thrive with long infusion times and can happily sit in a thermos for hours without becoming bitter. To be honest, I rarely brew either of them any other way.

This set also includes a 500ml Fissman stainless steel thermos to help you get started. After trying a number of different thermoses, I kept coming back to this one for its simple, thoughtful design and excellent heat retention. The spout is easy to clean, naturally keeps the tea leaves inside the thermos while you drink, and the lid doubles as an excellent on-the-go cup.

For me, thermos brewing captures the idea behind this first collection: tea that's woven into everyday life.
