About

Foray tea is a guide, not just a tea store.

It grew out of my own forays into the world of Chinese tea over the last decade or so. Along the way I realised that tea isn't just one thing. It's thousands of traditions, styles, regions and ways of enjoying it. Foray exists to help people explore that world, one collection at a time.

We aim to put out new releases two or three times a year, with each release shining a light on a specific corner of the tea world.

So where did my own forays begin?

I’ve been an avid learner of Chinese language and culture since 2012 and had the privilege to live there for 18 months whilst learning the language. Although I had some great tea experiences in China itself, the fire was really lit for me back in my home city, Melbourne, in 2016 when I started teaching full-time. It was a hectic year and I was looking for something to keep me going through long days and late nights. I tried to become a coffee person, but it never really agreed with my stomach or my nerves. At the same time, I was becoming interested in meditation and mindfulness and looking for small rituals to build into everyday life.

Then I attended my first tea ceremony.

I was hooked.

Over the next decade, tea became an obsession. For most of this time, it remained a personal hobby or something that I would occasionally share with friends. Then in 2022 I started to host some small scale tea ceremonies myself and discovered how much I loved sharing tea with others.

By the end of 2025, I started thinking about leaving teaching to build something of my own—something that would still allow me to connect with people while giving me more freedom to spend time with my family.

Foray is the result.
